Who I am:
I’m currently in the final year of my Master’s studies in Medicinal Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry, Jagiellonian University in Kraków. During my undergraduate studies, I discovered that what fascinates me most about medicinal chemistry is exploring the structure and function of macromolecules in both health and disease, as this forms the foundation for further drug discovery. This passion led me to the world of structural biology, where physics and chemistry come together to reveal the intricate details of biology at atomic resolution.
I’m currently completing my Master’s thesis project at the Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology, where I apply molecular and structural biology techniques to investigate proteins involved in the hypusination pathway of human protozoan parasites. Hypusination is a unique post-translational modification — it occurs on a single lysine residue of a single protein, yet it is essential for the proliferation and survival of eukaryotic cells.
Throughout my research journey, I have also had the opportunity to expand my expertise in protein science and crystallography by working at renowned international institutions, including Helmholtz Munich and the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY).
Outside the lab, I’m actively involved in the Jagiellonian University Student Government, where I organize events and contribute to shaping our academic programs. In my free time, I love diving into a good book, exploring the great outdoors, or enjoying a spontaneous city getaway.
My BioLAB work in the lab focuses on:
In my BioLAB project, I will join the Özkan lab at the University of Chicago, where I’ll have the opportunity to contribute to research on protein-glycan interactions that are essential for neuronal wiring. My project will involve using structural and biophysical techniques to characterize selected guidance cue proteins and their interactions with their receptors.
I decided to apply for a BioLAB program because:
The BioLAB program stands out as a unique opportunity for me to expand my scientific horizons while engaging in cutting-edge research at a leading US research institution. Its emphasis on independent research, critical thinking, and international collaboration aligns perfectly with my goal of further developing my research capabilities while contributing to impactful biomedical discoveries under expert guidance.
After completing my stay on BioLAB Program I would like to:
pursue a Ph.D. and continue my research journey. I recognize that BioLAB has been a gateway for many students on this path, and I see it as an invaluable stepping stone. This program will expand my technical expertise while also shaping me into a more independent and innovative scientist, fully equipped for the next stage of my academic career.
