Teaching English

Who I am:

I am a first-generation Polish American born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Most recently I graduated from Southern Methodist University with Honors in the Liberal Arts earning a Bachelor of the Arts in International Studies, a Bachelor of Science in Economics, and a Bachelor of Science in Statistical Science. Additionally, I earned minors in History and Educational Studies. During my time in college, I also worked as a tutor for my campus Office of Academic Development of Student Athletes and participated in the Teach For America Ignite Fellowship where I tutored elementary-aged students in both math and language arts topics. I love learning a little bit about everything this world has to offer and am said to hold an abundance of random and fun facts in my head. I enjoy staying active, doing crafts, and trying new restaurants. I grew up dancing and am hoping to learn at least one traditional folk dance during my time in Poland!

My Fulbright grant focuses on:

I will be co-teaching English courses at the Karkonoska Akademia Nauk Stosowanych in Jelenia Góra, Poland. It is my goal to not only improve the students’ English linguistic skills but to also increase their cultural understanding and foster cultural exchange within the classroom, especially as KANS has an Erasmus charter and serves students from throughout Europe. Outside of the classroom, I will be exploring the region, polishing my Polish language skills, and seeking out opportunities to volunteer and engage with my host community.

I decided to apply for a Fulbright grant because:

I have always had an interest in diplomacy and hope to pursue that line of work one day in the distant future. I believe that undertaking a Fulbright will allow me to gain the skills and experience I need to be most successful in that line of work. I love the experiences I’ve had teaching and tutoring and figured that an ETA was the perfect combination of all my interests that would allow me to both share my knowledge with the world as well as learn more and grow as an individual.

After completing my Fulbright grant I would like to:

I am currently studying for the LSAT, so I hope that I will be able to attend law school after the end of my grant. Following my recent graduation, I set a goal for myself to become fluent in 5 languages within 5 years. This experience in Poland will allow me to immerse myself and continue working on the Polish language while giving me some time to decide which fifth language I should learn. No matter what happens in the future, I hope to continue building cross-cultural connections and carry on the Fulbright mission throughout my personal and professional life.
