Maksym Pudełek

Who I am:
I am a 2nd-year Master’s student of Biochemistry at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. My main areas of interest include cancer biology, metabolism and drug resistance mechanisms. Currently, I am conducting research for my Master’s thesis at the Department of Cell Biology. The study focuses on evaluating the metabolic adaptation of human glioblastoma multiforme cells in the presence of various inhibitors of metabolic pathways. During my research, I perform metabolic tests and immunocytochemical staining, which I later analyze by using microscopic techniques. As a part of the BioLab program, I will join Dr. Joon Seok Park’s Project. In my free time I enjoy hiking, reading books and playing basketball.

My BioLAB work in the lab focuses on:
Working in the Park’s lab, I will investigate the mechanisms by which gut commensal microorganisms regulate anti-tumor immunity. In particular, my research will focus on elucidating how gut microbiota affects the landscape in the tumor environment, identifying microbial metabolites and signaling mediators, or determining the role of immune modulation of the gut microbiota in regulating the response to immunotherapy.

I decided to apply for a BioLAB program because:

it offers the opportunity to join top research groups that address key challenges in the fields of biology. I believe that this program is an ideal place to acquire professional skills through exposure to innovative techniques and methodologies. I believe It will give me valuable experience to face future challenges as a scientist.

After completing my stay on BioLAB Program I would like to:
continue my scientific career by pursuing a PhD in Europe or the U.S. I believe that this is the right path for me, and participating in BioLab will allow me to be better prepared for it.
