Magdalena Socha
Who I am:
My name is Magdalena Socha and I am a second year master student at the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography at the University of Gdańsk. My specialization is marine biology, in which I focus on marine microorganisms, specifically cyanobacteria, and their use in the fight against antibiotic resistance among human pathogens.
My BioLAB work in the lab focuses on:
As part of the BioLAB program, I will join Professor Weiwei Wang’s team, which focuses on understanding how neurotransmitter receptors are organized into higher-order assemblies in postsynaptic membranes and allow the function of our nervous systems.
I decided to apply for a BioLAB program because:
Considering the high level of biological sciences, especially biotechnology, in the United States, I decided that the opportunity to complete an internship there would allow me to gain new skills and experiences that I would not have access to in Poland. I believe that in pursuit of self-development I must be ready to leave my comfort zone and learn new approaches related to the work that interests me, and the BioLab Program makes this possible.
After completing my BioLAB Program I would like to:
I believe that the experience gained during the internship will make it easier for me to start doctoral studies in foreign research units. Additionally, I am looking forward to an opportunity to expand my competencies with additional biological knowledge beyond marine biology.
