Klaudia Łuków

Who I am:
I’m a second-year Master’s student in Medical Biology at the Department of General Biophysics, Institute of Biophysics at University of Łódź. My academic interests lie at the intersection of molecular biology and nanotechnology. I have gained hands-on experience through interdisciplinary research projects—initially working on the development of pH-responsive polymersomes for photodynamic therapy and currently investigating gold nanoparticle-decorated liposomes for targeted drug delivery. Beyond my scientific pursuits, I am passionate about traveling and exploring different cultures. I’ve had the opportunity to visit numerous countries across Europe and recently traveled to South Korea. These experiences have shaped my global perspective and deepened my appreciation for cultural diversity.

My BioLAB work in the lab focuses on:
For my internship, I will be joining the research team led by Dr. Lukas Tamm and Dr. Volker Kiessling at the University of Virginia. My project will focus on investigating the role of distinct insulin granule sub-populations in biphasic insulin secretion from pancreatic β-cells under normal and diabetic conditions.

I decided to apply for a BioLAB program because:

The BioLAB Program offers a unique opportunity to grow both personally and professionally by stepping outside of my familiar environment and gaining hands-on research experience abroad. The idea of testing my skills in an international setting has always been at the back of my mind, and when I came across this program, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to pursue that ambition. I see it as a great way to broaden my scientific perspective, enhance my practical skills, and collaborate with researchers from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds.

After completing my stay on BioLAB Program I would like to:
After completing my internship, I aim to continue my academic journey and pursue a PhD. I’m open to various opportunities that may arise, whether abroad, in the United States, or in Poland. My main focus is to engage in impactful research and contribute to advancements in my field, regardless of location.
