English Teaching Assistant

Teaching English

Who I am:

I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Houston in 2023, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in applied linguistics and a minor in philosophy as well as a Teaching English as an Additional Language Certificate. During my time at the University of Houston, I became fascinated with and passionate about better understanding the experiences of English language learners. As such, I decided to pursue a career in teaching English as a second or foreign language. I have been fortunate to work as a tutor and teaching assistant at the University of Houston’s Language and Culture Center, and I consider the mentorship and experiences that I have received there to be invaluable both personally and professionally. I have also had the privilege of working as an English instructor to refugees and asylum seekers within the city of Houston, Texas. I hope my time as a Fulbright English teaching assistant will allow me to hone the tools and skills needed to better support individuals from all backgrounds on their language learning journeys.

My Fulbright grant focuses on:

As an English teaching assistant, I will co-teach and teach practical English lessons at the post-secondary level. My grant will focus on the development and implementation of practical and useful English language lessons that align

I decided to apply for a Fulbright grant because:

As a student of applied linguistics and an aspiring English as a second or foreign language instructor, the combination of teaching and cultural exchange motivated me to apply for a Fulbright grant, and I chose to apply to Poland when I read about both English for Specific Purposes and Communicative Language Teaching being used in Polish classrooms. I am specifically interested in how these pedagogies are used and taught outside of the US, and the opportunity to learn more about these pedagogies in the Polish classroom will be extremely beneficial to my future career as an educator. Also, as a native Texan, I share my home state with ancestors of Poland’s oldest settlement in the US (Panna Maria), and I am interested in learning more about the history and culture of people whose ancestors have such deep ties and roots in Texas.

After completing my Fulbright grant I would like to:

Upon completion of my Fulbright grant, I plan to use the knowledge and experiences that I have gained in Poland to further pursue a career working with English language learners. However, it is also my goal and dream to be accepted into a graduate program where I can continue my studies in linguistics or a related pedagogical field. I want to continue learning and enhancing my skills in the classroom to better serve my students and contribute to the broader field of applied linguistics.
