Teaching English
Who I am:
My home lies in southeast Indiana in a small rural town called Versailles. I studied at Ball State University where I earned a BA in history and MA in Secondary Education. These two subjects, history and education, drive my career passions as they emphasize perspective and growth. During my time at Ball State, I excelled in research and received my first publication titled “Morgan’s Raid through Versailles, Indiana” in Traces of Midwestern History. I also worked with a great group of individuals to research notable women of Muncie, Indiana. Our contribution earned the Outstanding Collaborative Project Award from the Indiana Historical Bureau. Aside from my small research successes, my focus is directed on being a positive educator. I want nothing more than to be an inspiring guide and resource for bright young students. In my personal time, I enjoy hiking, reading, and having dinner with friends and family. I look forward to my experience and teaching opportunities with new individuals in Leszno, Poland.
My Fulbright grant focuses on:
My time and effort will be devoted to teaching and helping students at Jan Amos Komeński State University with their English speaking skills. In addition to teaching and assisting, I will act as a positive cultural ambassador for the United States. I intend to engage with my host community through volunteering, clubs, tours, and authentic interactions.
I decided to apply for a Fulbright grant because:
I applied for Fulbright because I saw it as an opportunity to excel professionally and personally. As a teacher, I am never done learning and Fulbright offers me the chance to work with fantastic individuals in a mutually beneficial environment. I also hold Polish heritage and this experience will allow me to learn more about my ancestry as I explore the cities they once lived in.
After completing my Fulbright grant I would like to:
After completing my Fulbright grant, I intend to return to my community in southeast Indiana and pursue a secondary teaching position in history. My time in Poland will allow me to be more connected with the material I teach. I hope sharing my experiences will help further inspire my students to consider alternative perspectives and to travel the world one day. Lastly, I intend to pursue a master’s degree in history to deepen my knowledge and offer more challenging courses for my students in the future.
