Fulbright Specialist Program 2023-24 projects summary

We invite you to explore the projects implemented as part of the Fulbright Specialist Program during the academic year 2023-24. This program connects Polish institutions with distinguished American specialists, enabling collaborative project execution.

On October 8, the application process opens for 2025-26 project proposals. We warmly encourage Polish institutions interested in collaborating with American specialists to submit their applications. Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw

Specialist: James Robert Bell
Field of Study: Education
Project Title: Improving Quality of Informal Learning

During his visit, James Robert Bell supported the SOWA initiative – the Zone of Discovery, Imagination, and Activity, aimed at building a network of engaged educators. The specialist familiarized himself with the activities offered by the Copernicus Science Centre, participated in program events (Science Picnic, an evening for adults, laboratory activities, and exhibitions), provided feedback to the exhibition teams, and shared his experiences in informal education.

Foundation for Quality Education in Warsaw

Specialist: Suzanne Pratt
Field of Study: Education
Project Title: Classroom with Children on the Move

During her visit, Suzanne Pratt presented specialized methods for working with migrant children used in New York. She showcased specific materials that teachers in New York schools use to support children with migration experiences in learning a new language and adapting to school life. The specialist developed a workshop plan to help Polish teachers find solutions for challenges related to working with children who have migration experiences and provided recommendations for their future work.

Medical University of Gdańsk, Department of Psychiatry

Specialist: Kristin Sohl
Field of Study: Public/Global Health
Project Title: ECHO Autism Poland – Innovative Case-Based Learning Model

Dr. Kristin Sohl participated in the 5th International Conference “Let’s Talk About Autism and Beyond” – focusing on psychosexual development, motherhood, and menopause. She delivered a guest lecture titled “Modeling Environments for Individuals with Neurodevelopmental Disabilities.” The specialist also shared her clinical experiences at meetings of the Polish Psychiatric Association and the Polish Pediatric Society.

Wroclaw University of Economics and Business

Specialist: Jamie King Belinne
Field of Study: Economics
Project Title: WUEB with Future Competencies in a Modern Way

Jamie King Belinne specializes in intergenerational management and performance improvement through diverse interpersonal styles. During her visit, she taught constructive communication, networking, and intergenerational integration in management education programs. The specialist met with program leaders and dean’s authorities at the Wrocław University of Economics to present the latest teaching techniques and innovative solutions in higher education.

Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, Faculty of Education

Specialist: Christopher Morphew
Field of Study: Education
Project Title: Innovations in Higher Education Research and Leadership

During his visit, Professor Christopher Morphew delivered lectures for management staff, academic teachers, doctoral students, and engaged in expert meetings with interested parties. The topics covered included challenges in university management and higher education, traditions and innovations in teacher education and doctoral training in the USA, and support in academic work. The meetings also addressed best practices that could inspire innovative transformations in the Polish science and higher education system. A continuation of international cooperation in higher education research and civic education in the United States was planned during the visit.

University of Warsaw, Faculty of Oriental Studies

Specialist: Anna Zielińska-Elliott
Field of Study: Education
Project Title: Literary Translation Workshop, Lectures, and Symposium

Professor Anna Zielińska-Elliott conducted workshops and delivered lectures for students of the Department of Japanese Studies at the University of Warsaw on literary translation. The specialist also visited a translation seminar in the Department of Japanese Studies, which provided an opportunity for discussion and changes in Japanese language teaching methodology. She was a special guest at the symposium “Japanese Literature from the Translator’s Perspective,” where she delivered a lecture titled “Japanese Literature Without Footnotes: Nostalgia, Globalization, and Artificial Intelligence.”
