The Polish-U.S. Fulbright Commission invites Polish higher education institutions to apply to host a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) for the 2025-26 academic year. We especially encourage applications from institutions in smaller academic centers that may not frequently have access to native English speakers.
The deadline to submit applications is January 31, 2025, and we expect to select 9 placements.
The English Teaching Assistant Program, part of the global Fulbright Program, places American graduates in classrooms abroad to assist local English teachers. ETAs help teach the English language while serving as cultural ambassadors for the United States.
During their 9-month stay in Poland (from October to June), Fulbright ETAs assist with English language classes and/or independently teach, depending on the needs of the host institution and their preparedness for academic-level teaching. Classes are directed at students, doctoral candidates, academic staff, and administrative personnel. ETAs have a teaching workload of 10 to 14 hours per week, following a fixed schedule established at the start of each semester. Additionally, they may hold individual consultations or office hours for up to 4 hours per week.
The presence of ETAs provides Polish universities with native English speakers, enriching language instruction. ETAs, who are graduates of U.S. universities from various states, bring diverse knowledge and experience across multiple disciplines. Their openness to new experiences and dedication to improving their teaching skills promote the exchange and adoption of academic best practices. As most ETAs have varied experience teaching English as a foreign language, host institutions are expected to support them in preparing for and executing their teaching responsibilities.
Beyond classroom teaching, Fulbright ETAs engage in extracurricular activities such as organizing thematic workshops, discussion clubs, theater groups, and lectures on U.S. culture and history. They also support EducationUSA advising center located at our Commission in outreach activities.
